  • Australian Epigenetics Scientific Meeting, Perth, 4-7 November 2007

As you will see from the website, twelve prominent overseas scientists will be spearheading this conference, which will focus on aspects of one of the hottest and most exciting new fields of biology in the scientific world today.

Excitingly, this meeting will overlap with the 5th International Congress on Developmental Origins of Health & Disease (DOHaD), which commences in Perth on Tuesday 6 November 2007 at the same venue. The Conference Committee anticipates that these meetings will be highly synergistic and have already had substantial expressions of interest from local and overseas scientists.

The scientific programme for the meeting is being developed by leaders in the field of epigenetics from around Australia, including Dr Jean Finnegan (CSIRO Plant Industry Division, Canberra), Prof Emma Whitelaw (Queensland Institute for Medical Research), A/Prof Jeff Craig (Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Melbourne) and A/Prof Susan Clark (Garvin Institute, Sydney).

The Epigenetics Meeting will be broadly based, focusing on the needs of Australian scientists working in all areas of eukaryotic biology, particularly plant and animal biologists, as well as biomedical researchers. The objectives of the meeting are:

  • To provide an opportunity for Australian bioscience researchers to hear and meet top international researchers in the field of epigenetics.
  • To provide a forum for Australian and international scientists to present research findings in either spoken and poster presentations.
  • To increase community awareness of the scientific and economic significance of the emerging new field of epigenetics.
  • To foster national and international collaborations.

It has become apparent that there will be considerable number of cross-bookings from those attending the DOHaD meeting.

Given the nature and magnitude of the meeting, with its strong international flavour and cutting edge focus, the Australian Epigenetics Scientific Conference will provide a valuable platform for the promotion of the biotechnology products relevant to epigenetic research.
